ImageThe Department of Health and Ageing’s RASTS (Rural Advanced Specialist Training Support) scheme provided funding to several specialist Colleges, including the RANZCP, to support the development of rural training programs. The College of Psychiatrists’ RASTS project commenced in September 2003 and was finalised in March 2009.
Activities of the RANZCP RASTS project included:

Providing support to trainees on rural rotations when completing the majority of their training in a rural area;
Establishing a rural training database;
Establishing a database of rural psychiatrists;
Developing strategies to promote rural training and recruitment to rural practice;
Providing a central point of contact for rural enquiries;
Supporting the ongoing development of the Rural Special Interest Group (RSIG).

The project was managed by the RANZCP Policy Unit.
